Stills from The Broken News Season 2 trailer.
In June 2023, the teaser of The Broken News Season 2 was unveiled by the makers. However, the second season is yet to see the light of the day. Amid such thought processes, the makers of the series today unveiled the trailer of the second season. The show, produced by ZEE5 in collaboration with BBC Studios India, stars Sonali Bendre, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shriya Pilgaonkar. The trailer continues the story of the rivalry between two ideologically opposed news channels in Mumbai.
What is the basic story about?
The plot of The Broken News centers on the rivalry between two news channels located in Mumbai, namely Awaaz Bharati and Josh 24/7. Sonali portrays Ameena Qureshi, who leads Awaaz Bharati, while Jaideep portrays Dipankar Sanyal, the head of Josh 24x7. Dipankar had conspired against Radha Bhargava, played by Shriya Pilgaonkar, a determined journalist, and had her imprisoned in the initial season. In the current season, Radha returns, teams up with Ameena, and schemes to seek vengeance against Dipankar, as shown in the trailer.
The Broken News Season 2 release date
Building up excitement around the show, the makers announced that Season 2 will premiere on May 3, 2024, on ZEE5. “The battle between Awaaz Bharati and Josh 24x7 continues even outside the newsroom, with Radha waging a personal war. With the line between truth and sensationalism blurring, what lies ahead? Premieres 3rd May 2024” wrote the OTT platform.
Is the show a remake?
Season 2 of The Broken News, directed by Vinay Waikul, who also helmed the first season, is a reimagining of the British show Press, which showcases the competition between two British newspapers. The main cast includes Charlotte Riley, Ben Chaplin, and Priyanga Burford in significant roles. Press concluded after its first six episodes aired in 2018.
What was shown in the teaser?
The teaser did throw light on the trailer and the entire Season 2 in the right way. The teaser explored the intense rivalry between two news channels in Mumbai with very different ideologies. Dipankar Sanyal from Josh 24x7 celebrates his victory and criticizes channels like Awaaz Bharati as being anti-national. Meanwhile, we see Radha Bhargava and Ameena Qureshi trapped behind bars.
Sonali Bendre’s OTT debut
Sonali Bendre is making her debut on an OTT platform with the series. She shared her excitement about the positive reception of the first season and expressed her joy about returning for another season. In the upcoming season, Ameena will be taking on the truth battle solo, as opposed to the previous season where she was part of a team with Radha.
