Warning: Spoilers ahead!

The Blacklist Season 8 culminated on June 23 and we are still not over that devastating finale. We will be discussing the finale along with what is next for the former The Blacklist actor, Megan Boone.

In the final episode, after Neville Townsend is dead, Raymond Reddington (James Spader) plans to hand over the keys to his empire to a reluctant Elizabeth Keen Megan Boone), as she agrees after running into the girl who she saved in season 1 episode 1, who encourages her to keep making the world a better place. The only catch is: Elizabeth will have to do what she had been trying to do all along in season 8- kill Reddington, publicly, so as to prove herself as a capable leader, not to be messed with and denouncing her identity as a FBI agent to the world of criminals.

As Liz finally agrees to kill Reddington and goes after him to pull the trigger, she is shot by one of Townsend’s henchmen in the back as she crumples into Reddington’s arms. Reddington shoots the henchman and hugs Keen to his chest. He is reluctantly pulled away by Dembe before the police arrive as the task force runs towards Liz. In the final shot, there is an aerial view as all the members of the task force gather around Keen, who is already dead, with splotches of red clearly visible on her and blood pooling under her.

The finale leaves us with the eternal question: Who is Raymond Reddington and how does he fit in Elizabeth’s life or well did?

Elizabeth Keen shared a heartwarming post on her social media after her exit. She thanked the cast members, crew and the viewers for all the love and support towards her.

The Blacklist has been renewed for another season with no confirmation on the date yet or how it will move forward without Boone.

If this wasn’t shocking enough, the creator and executive producer of the show Jon Bokenkamp also announced his exit. Explaining his exit in a Twitter post, he said he will be stepping out of his comfort zone and will explore other stories. He also paid tribute to Boone and the viewers.

Reportedly, Megan Boone has launched her own production company named Weird Sister. Her first deal is with Sony Pictures Television, the studio behind The Blacklist.

Jess Frost, the president of Sony Pictures Television has commended Boone’s vision and creativity. Boone plans on narrating character-driven stories through her new venture which will be led by women. It will also put emphasis on diversity and different perspectives.
