The Batman: Part II is easily one of the most anticipated movie and Matt Reeves has dropped a lot of details about the sequel.
Everything About The Batman: Part II
The world of The Batman epic crime saga is one of the most anticipated spaces in the realm of superheroes. With so much happening, the curiosity to know more remains high. The Penguin is set to hit streaming this month, picking up right after the events of The Batman: Part 1. There's also Joker: Folie à Deux (not in The Batman timeline, but still of interest). And then there are rumors and confirmed updates about The Batman: Part II (also known as The Batman 2). Now, it seems that director Matt Reeves has decided to spill a massive amount of tea about the sequel to the Robert Pattinson starrer, revealing everything from the schedule to the plot, villains, and even who not to expect in the film.
One of the biggest questions since the announcement that The Penguin is set right after the events of The Batman: Part I is whether the character will appear in Part II. Matt Reeves has now cleared up any doubts and confirmed that Colin Farrell's Penguin will indeed be part of The Batman: Part II. Farrell’s villain will have a pivotal role in the sequel. Reeves even revealed that the upcoming standalone show, The Penguin serves as a bridge between the two The Batman movies. Read on to learn more.
"Colin [Farrell] will be part of the movie," Reeves said about the Penguin’s return, according to Variety. "We’ve shared [the script] as we’ve been going along with DC and the studio, and they’re super excited." Referring to The Penguin as an entry point into The Batman 2 Matt Reeves added, "There are details that actually connect right into the way the next movie begins, and the way that Oz enters that world as we hand the baton back to Batman, and Batman is on another case."
While plot details are still under wraps, Matt Reeves has provided some hints about what to expect. Speaking to the same outlet, he said, "We're going to dig into the epic story of deeper corruption, and it goes into places that Batman couldn’t anticipate in the first one. The seeds of where this goes are all in the first movie. It expands in a way that will show you aspects of the character you never got to see."

"Batman is constantly battling these forces, but those forces can’t be entirely exorcised. So the next movie delves deeper into that," he added.
The Batman: Part I teased several villains, including a Joker played by Barry Keoghan. While we know that The Penguin will be in The Batman: Part II other villains remain unconfirmed. Fans have long demanded the inclusion of Gentleman Ghost in The Batman universe, but Matt Reeves has denied that possibility, stating that the franchise won’t be going that fantastical.
“What was important to me was to find a way to take these pop icons, these mythical characters that everybody knows, and translate them so that Gotham feels like a place in our world,” Reeves explained. “We might push to the edge of the fantastical, but we would never go full fantastical. It’s meant to feel quite grounded.”
Reeves continued, “That doesn’t mean you won’t see characters that people love. That’s exactly what we want to do. Gentleman Ghost is probably pushed a bit too far for us to be able to find a way to do, but there is a fun way to think about how we would take characters that might push over into a bit of the fantastical and find a way to make sense of that.”
Matt Reeves has confirmed that The Batman: Part II now has a completed script, and production is moving forward swiftly. While pre-production continues, the plan is to begin shooting next year. Earlier this year, the studio confirmed that the release of the Robert Pattinson starrer had been delayed by a year. Initially set for an October 3, 2025 release, The Batman 2 is now slated for release on October 2, 2026.
