The film, set in the 1960s, also features Agastya Nanda, Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Yuvraj Menda, and Vedang Raina in pivotal roles.
Zoya Akhtar will tackle a beloved comic book adaptation for her next directorial, The Archies. The makers unveiled the film’s first look today, and seeing the newcomers slaying in the 60s setup certainly got netizens talking.
The first look stoked the excitement of many fans, who talked about how they could not wait to see the film. Users remarked how ‘cool’ and ‘fun’ the new poster looked, and even remarked how nostalgic it made them feel. “Nothing like old school”, wrote one user.
One of the things that many users took notice of was how the look of one of the cast members, Yuvraj Menda, had a stark resemblance to Harry Potter. In the poster, Menda is seen with glasses and a blue cardigan vest on, with his hands folded behind his back. “Whats Harry Potter doing there? Do Ron and Hermione know he switched gangs?”, wrote one user. “Not Yuvraj Menda serving Harry Potter realness” said another user.
A group of users also talked about whether or not the film will resemble the American teen drama series, Riverdale. While one user used the words ‘desi Riverdale’ to describe the poster, another hoped that the film would be nothing like the US adaptation, which stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes and Cole Sprouse.
There were also more than a few users who accused the makers of the film of nepotism. The film stars Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda in lead roles. Khan is the daughter of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, while Kapoor is the daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, as well as the sister of Janhvi Kapoor. Nanda is the grandson of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.
The Archies will premiere on Netflix in 2023.
