Actor-director Tharun Bhascker is reportedly set to essay the lead role in the Telugu remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey . An official confirmation on the same is awaited.
If the speculations are true, Tharun Bhascker will reprise the role of Basil Joseph. While Tharun made his debut in film as a director, he's carving a niche for himself as an actor too. He has several acting roles to his credit, including Mahanati, Meeku Maathrame Cheptha, Sita Ramam, and Keedaa Cola. He also played a key role in Amazon Prime Video's Telugu web series Dhootha.
Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey was originally released in 2022. It was both a critical and commercial hit, celebrated as the messy version of the highly acclaimed domestic drama The Great Indian Kitchen.
Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey revolves around a woman's experience in an arranged marriage. In the film, Jayabharathi (played by Darshana Rajendran) is expected to surrender to the authority of her frail-hearted, egoistic husband Rajesh (Basil Joseph). Jaya's life takes a turn for the worse when Rajesh begins to beat her. Initially, the beatings start as a momentary outburst but soon become her everyday reality.
Jaya's biggest shock comes from her parents, who expect her to endure all the beatings from her husband without making a fuss about it. That's when Jaya decides to take control of her life by learning self-defence.

Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey received a rousing reception at the box office and became a huge hit. Made on a budget of Rs 5 crore, it went on to earn more than Rs 45 crore. The film gained more popularity and appreciation following its streaming debut on Disney+Hotstar.
