Anil Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor in Thar | Netflix India
Father-son duo Anil Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor will soon be seen in Netflix's desi Western noir thriller, Thar directed by Raj Singh Chaudhary. The trailer revealed the movie to be set in a barren landscape, and the filmmaker recently opened up about the team's experience of working in such a terrain.
In a statement, Raj described how tough it was to shoot in the desert, which served as a logistical hurdle especially when the team had to carry equipment to set up a shot.
"One such location was one that I found which was an 800-year-old structure and it was beautiful and in the middle of nowhere on top of the mountain, I knew I had to shoot there but then the production told me that logistically it was impossible to shoot there. I convinced them, and the production was amazing that they created a road for an easy commute," shared Raj.
He further spoke about how veteran actor Satish Kaushik, who plays a pivotal role in Thar, had to climb a mountain, and how Anil had to ride a Yezdi bike. Raj also shared an instance where Fatima Sana Shaikh fell out of a moving jeep, which scared the team. However, she "brushed herself up and got back into the jeep," said Raj.
Set in the 80s, Thar follows a veteran cop who finds chance to prove himself when a series of grisly murders shake a sleepy Rajasthani town. He crosses paths with Siddharth, an antiques dealer, whose journey has also brought him to this remote settlement.
Raj has written the movie, produced by Anil Kapoor Film Company (AKFC), and penned the dialogues with Anurag Kashyap.
Thar releases on May 6.
