Thanksgiving the 2023 slasher film, is gearing up for its full-fledged OTT release in India. Beginning on July 13, 2024, Netflix will start to stream the movie that Eli Roth, Jeff Rendell, and Roger Birnbaum created. However, the release is nearly a month away; until then, the film is available to rent on Prime Video and ZEE5 [OTTplay Premium].

Cast and plot overview of Thanksgiving

Based on Roth's fictional trailer from Grindhouse (2007), it is the third feature-length adaptation of a Grindhouse trailer, following Robert Rodriguez's Machete (2010) and Jason Eisener's Hobo with a Shotgun (2011). The film has a cast including Milo Manheim, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, Gina Gershon, Patrick Dempsey, and Addison Rae as they portray the terror that a murderer wearing a John Carver mask inflicts on a sleepy Massachusetts village over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Following the horrific Black Friday riots, an enigmatic murderer terrorises Plymouth, Massachusetts, the birthplace of Thanksgiving. As the murderer goes house to house, his murders, which at first glance appear to be random acts of vengeance, eventually expose themselves as a darker holiday plot. Who will the town's holiday dinner guests be this year—the killer or the town's survivors?

Box office performance and sequel plans

Thanksgiving opened in November 2023 and earned a global total of $46 million, garnering positive reviews from critics. Plans are afoot to create a sequel. The initial backer, Sony's TriStar Pictures, must feel justified in returning to terrorise the citizens of Plymouth, Mass. considering the film's $15 million production cost.

As per reports, Roth made a notoriously phoney trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse (a double feature) 16 years ago, and the concept for Thanksgiving came from that. An axe-wielding killer causes mayhem in a tiny town following a tragic Black Friday riot in the eventual feature film starring Patrick Dempsey and TikTok star Addison Rae.

Meanwhile, among Roth's many terrifying films are Cabin Fever Hostel, The Green Inferno, and Knock Knock. Among his other credits are the 2018 version of Death Wish with Bruce Willis and the PG family film The House With a Clock in Its Walls, which starred Jack Black and Cate Blanchett.
