Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Thankam is helmed by Saheed Arafath and scripted by Syam Pushkaran
Be it Maheshinte Prathikaram, Kumbalangi Nights or Joji, Malayalam scriptwriter Syam Pushkaran’s movies in the recent years have been lauded for its storytelling as well as performances. So, it’s no wonder that the expectations are high for his next – Thankam, which has Vineeth Sreenivasan, Biju Menon and Aparna Balamurali as part of the cast.
The movie, helmed by Theeram director Saheed Arafath, is produced by Bhavana Studios that is backed by Fahadh Faasil, Syam and director Dileesh Pothan.
What is Thankam about?
The crime drama revolves around a group of workers employed in the jewellery sector. Syam, however, in a recent press meet had said that the film is not a realistic depiction of the lives of the workers including goldsmiths and jewellery employees, but rather focuses on an isolated incident. The scriptwriter also said that Thankam is their most cinematic film yet, as it deals with the incidents that happen in Kerala and takes its characters on a journey through places such as Coimbatore and Mumbai.
Who are the main characters in Thankam?
Both Vineeth and Biju Menon essay the male protagonists in the movie. Incidentally, Fahadh was also at one point considered for the role that Vineeth essays in the movie. Syam, however, clarified that Vineeth was the first choice and the team went to Fahadh as the former had a few personal commitments when they were initially planning to shoot the movie in 2020. The pandemic, however, delayed the start of the movie and they once again approached Vineeth to play the protagonist. Vineeth and Biju play gold workers in the film, which marks their second collaboration after Kunjiramayanam.
Aparna essays the role of the wife of Vineeth’s character in the film, which also marks the Malayalam debut of actor Girish Kulkarni, who will be seen as a cop. Vineeth Thattathil David also plays a pivotal role in the movie.
When is Thankam releasing?
Thankam is set to hit theatres on January 26, 2023. The crime drama will clash with Mohanlal’s Alone, which also releases on the same date.
