The movie, helmed by Indra Kumar, is set to hit theatres on October 25
The Diwali trailer of Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra’s upcoming release Thank God has all the trappings of a ‘divine’ comedy. The movie’s trailer, which was released on Thursday, gave the audience a glimpse of what to expect from the Indra Kumar directorial.
The video kicked off with Ajay Devgn appearing as the Hindu God Chitragupt, in his traditional guise, before getting a modern CGI-induced makeover for those of the OTT generation. Was that also a hint that the movie’s OTT rights are bought by Amazon Prime Video?
The large section of trailer dedicated itself to the funny exchanges between Ajay’s character of God and Sidharth’s role as a man who is between life and after-life as he is being operated upon by a confused doctor. To save his life, Sidharth’s character must partake and win in the ‘Game of Life’, which the protagonist refers to as what inspired Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepathi.
The comedy, which also has Rakul Preet Singh, promises more such references that could promise an entertaining experience for the audience when it hits theatres on October 25. The trailer concludes with a rather enlightening note, when Ajay’s character asks Sidharth’s, ‘If you don’t laugh at the same joke more than once, why do you cry repeatedly over the same sorrow?’
The film, which completed its shoot earlier this year, is written by Aakash Kaushik and Madhur Sharma, and has music by Tanishk Bagchi, Rochak Kohli, Anand Raaj Anand and Chamath Sangeeth. Thank God also revolves around the theme of good and evil deeds, and how the explanation of the person to God also helps decide his fate – to get another shot at life or to remain in Yamalok.
Meanwhile, after the film’s first trailer was released in September, there were calls from a section of people to boycott the movie for hurting religious sentiments. A case was also registered against the film’s producers in UP for hurting the feelings of the Kayastha community.
