Vijay in 'Leo'

Thalapathy Vijay's latest movie Leo seems to be going slow but steady in terms of box office collection. In its third week, the movie has managed to break several collection records of previous Tamil blockbusters worldwide. Adding to the list of its achievements, Leo has crossed the coveted Rs 200 mark at the global box office.

According to industry sources, Leo has earned Rs 201 crore so far from its ticket sales in overseas markets, becoming the first Tamil film to achieve this box office milestone.

Bankrolled by Seven Screen Studios, Leo has already become the biggest ear hit in Vijay's career. The movie has so far collected more than Rs 600 crore in worldwide ticket sales. The movie has earned more than Rs 400 crore in India alone.

While Leo has already become one of the biggest hits at the Tamil Nadu box office, it has also shattered records for Tamil cinema in various parts of the country.

Leo is the biggest Tamil hit at the Kerala box office with over Rs 58 crore collection. It overtook the lifetime collection of Superstar Rajinikanth's latest blockbuster Jailer, which had earned Rs 57 crore in Kerala.

Leo has also done exceptionally well in other states, including Karnataka and Telugu states, becoming a profitable venture for all stakeholders. It also surprised many with the kind of reception it received in the Hindi belt.

Leo was released on around 2000 single screens in the North Indian states. The movie didn't get a wider release because the national multiplex screens boycotted the movie in protest against its shorter OTT release window. Yet, the movie managed to gross over Rs 40 crore in the Hindi belt, which is the highest for any Tamil movie in recent years.
