Vijay in Leo and Rajinikanth in Jailer
The mixed reviews Leo garnered on its first day had little impact on its theatrical run. The film is still putting up an impressive performance in a few territories. The makers announced a few days ago that the movie had earned 540 crores.
The action drama helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has become the highest grossing project in his career and Vijay's career, surpassing Vikram and Varisu respectively. Though the much-awaited film is unlikely to enter the coveted 1,000 crore club owing to a lack of full-fledged release in the Hindi market, cinephiles believe it has done good numbers considering its mixed responses from critics.
Vijay's Leo achieves THIS record in the UK
The film's advance ticket booking in the UK began a few weeks before its release on October 19. Ahimsa Entertainment, which bagged the movie's distribution there, used to come up with regular updates on booking status, leaving fans excited.
They have now announced that Leo has collected 40 crores in the UK and other markets in Europe. This is reportedly an all-time record in Indian cinema. Vijay has always enjoyed a huge fan base in the UK and the humongous numbers aren't a surprise.
Leo set to surpass Jailer in overseas
The Vijay-starrer is likely to outsmart the Rajinikanth-starrer in overseas in the coming days. The former will be in second position after 2.0 which was released in 2018. When Jailer broke several records in OS, all eyes were on Leo's box office performance.
Leo would have outdone Jailer in OS, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and North India by the end of its theatrical run. Karnataka and Telugu states are the two territories where Leo couldn't pose any threat to Jailer.
