Many theatres across Tamil Nadu are allocating big screens for Ghilli, which will hit the screens on April 20, coinciding with its 20th anniversary.
Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli is poised to set a new benchmark for re-released movies at the Tamil Nadu box office. Based on the initial booking trend, the film might rival a new Tamil movie in terms of opening day collection.
According to reports, many theatres across Tamil Nadu are allocating big screens for Ghilli, which will hit the screens on April 20, coinciding with its 20th anniversary . Chennai's popular screen, Sathyam Cinemas, will be screening the movie on its main screen, as will many other theatres in Chennai.
Chennai's Vettri Theatres is particularly upbeat about the release and the response it's generating among movie buffs. The two-screen theatre has already sold out for the opening weekend and has also started taking bookings for Monday. The re-release appears to be setting a new trend and is likely to become the biggest success story in the history of Tamil Nadu box office releases.

Stakeholders in Tamil Nadu are banking on past blockbusters to end the ongoing dry spell at the box office. Recently, the producer re-released "Paiyaa," the 2010 blockbuster starring Karthi and Tamannaah. However, it didn't generate as much buzz as "Ghilli."
Tamil Nadu theaters are now depending on Malayalam movies to draw crowds. "I would see it directly. Now our audience have started to appreciate quality entertaining contents irrespective of the language. This is quite healthy for the industry. Yes, Kollywood BO has been pathetic post Pongal, hope we make up at least in the 2nd half of 2024!!!" added Rakesh.
Ghilli is now streaming on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium.
