Vijay in Varisu
Varisu has taken a good opening across the world despite the Vijay-starrer preponing its release by a day. Though there were last minute confusions in a few overseas locations with regard to premiere shows and advance booking, the film gradually picked up the momentum.
Despite having a clash with Ajith's Thunivu, the movie has opened to impressive figures. It has grossed more than 20 crores from Tamil Nadu, while the collection is around 5 crores from Kerala and Karnataka each. The family drama is set for a release in Telugu states on January 14.
Known is the fact that Vijay is one star who enjoys a good following in overseas markets. In fact, his fanbase is only next to Rajinikanth among Tamil stars in many countries. Varisu debuted at fourth place in the UK and Ireland upon its release there. Avatar: The Way Of Water, Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody and A Man Called Otto are other movies that are ahead of the Vamshi Paidipally directorial in these two locations. Fans of Vijay are keeping their fingers crossed as the movie hasn't garnered unanimous positive reviews unlike a few of his outings in the recent past.
The star's last film Beast did not meet the humongous expectations and fans were hoping that Varisu would compensate for it. However, the movie which they have been eagerly waiting for was Thalapathy 67 (tentative title) which has Lokesh Kanagaraj at the helm.
The big budget project went on floors recently in Chennai. It is heard that the gangster drama is likely to hit the screens as a Deepavali release this year.
