The wait is over! The Thalapathy 69 announcement has been finally made. Actor Vijay’s final film, before he plunges into a full-fledged political career, will be helmed by filmmaker H Vinoth, it was officially confirmed on social media on Saturday.

Thalapathy 69 is expected to be the farewell film for actor Vijay, who has been ruling the hearts of many fans of Tamil cinema. On Saturday, KVN Productions formally announced the launch of Thalapathy 69.

Director H Vinoth, who made films like Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, Sathuranga Vettai and Thunivu, is all set to join hands with Vijay marking their maiden collaboration. It will be interesting to watch what kind of film the duo will be coming up with. The music for the film will be scored by Anirudh Ravichander, a regular collaborator in Vijay films. Thalapathy 69 makers are aiming to release the film in October 2025.

The poster shows a hand holding a torch, with the phrase "the torch bearer of democracy arriving soon". The title of the project is yet to be announced.

Earlier, H Vinoth had revealed that Thalapathy 69 will not be a political film but one that will be watched by all age groups. “This film will not attack any political party, nor will be political. It is a light film which will be fully commercial,” he had said.

Earlier KVN Productions released a video paying tribute to actor Vijay, who announced his acting retirement beginning of this year. After floating his political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, Vijay announced that he will be retiring from acting to concentrate on full-time politics, with the aim to participate in the upcoming 2026 Assembly Elections. While scores of fans have been dejected that they will not be able to see their favourite star onscreen once again, Thalapathy 69 is expected to be a treat for them.
