Thalaivar 171 - Why director Lokesh Kanagaraj is embarking on a digital detox

2023 has been an eventful year for Lokesh Kanagaraj who delivered a mammoth success in 'Leo' and further strengthened his hold as a top-billed filmmaker in Tamil cinema. Alongside, he also introduced his production house G Squad to the world by presenting the recent film 'Fight Club' in theatres under the banner.

To add to this, he has also taken on the task of directing a short film which is slated to be released at the earliest. Reports state that the film will trace the origin of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe or 'LCU' and even may serve as a predecessor to 'Kaithi 2'.

"During this time, I will not be reachable," he wrote in the note that he shared earlier today via social media, before going to thank his audience for all the love and support. "Stay positive and ignore negativity," he said before signing off.

Of course, many would already know that the 37-year-old filmmaker will soon be working with Superstar Rajinikanth in the untitled 'Thalaivar 171' project, which one hears is likely to go on floors in the first half of 2024. Lokesh Kanagaraj has already confirmed that the said film will NOT be part of the LCU but a standalone project belonging to a genre that he is attempting for the first time.

Evidently, he wishes to deliver at his best while collaborating with Rajinikanth, who himself returned to form earlier this year with the mega success of 'Jailer'.

Following 'Thalaivar 171', Lokesh Kanagaraj has 'Kaithi 2' with Karthi, the Vikram spin-off and sequel 'Rolex' and 'Vikram 2' and also 'Irumbukkai Mayavi', a sci-fi epic starring Suriya in the pipeline.
