Thalaivar 169 is on; Superstar Rajinikanth changes his Twitter cover picture

Rumours were abuzz that Beast filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar won't be directing Thalaivar 169, starring Rajinikanth in the lead, after the Vijay-starrer fetched him mixed reviews. Putting all speculations to an end, the Superstar has changed his Twitter cover picture with a still from Thalaivar 169's title announcement video. Until recently, it was a photo from Darbar. This has made the Rajinikanth fans extremely happy, giving them hope that the much-hyped project will take off, as per the announcement. It looks like Rajinikanth caught a special screening of Beast, but was eventually, not impressed by the film. Somehow, this made the media speculate that Nelson Dilipkumar would be replaced by some other director. Nevertheless, now, all is well with both. Nelson also had updated 'Thalaivar 169' on his Twitter bio. OTTplay reached out to Rajinikanth's PR team, and they confirmed that Nelson pretty much remains the director of Thalaivar 169.

Thalaivar 169 is bankrolled by Sun Pictures, and will go on floors in July. In February, Sun Pictures had unveiled a promo featuring Nelson Dilipkumar, music director Anirudh Ravichander and Rajinikanth. All three looked dapper, sporting black blazers. Thalaivar 169 will be an important film in the actor's career, as his earlier outing, Annaatthe failed to impress both the audience and critics alike. The Siva-directorial had nothing much to offer, but the usual family drama. While the rest of the cast and crew of Thalaivar 169 are yet to be revealed, it is widely speculated that Priyanka Mohan is a part of it. Priyanka's latest outing was Suriya's Etharkkum Thunindhavan. Also, she made her Tamil debut in Nelson Dilipkumar's Doctor, which had Sivakarthikeyan in the lead. Unconfirmed sources tell OTTplay that Priyanka Mohan is likely to play Rajinikanth's daughter in Thalaivar 169. However, we await an official confirmation. Up next, Priyanka has Don, lined up for release, on May 13, along with Sivakarthikeyan.
