The Telugu industry is warming up to new talent with an openness like never before. While the OTT boom may not have diminished the ability of stars to draw audiences to theatres, it has certainly paved the way for emerging actors to find acceptance among audiences. Featuring two newcomers including globally acclaimed bodybuilder Raja Narendra, Rushika Raj and well-known character actor Keshav Deepak in lead roles, a crime thriller Asmee is gearing up for a release soon. Directed by debutant Sesh Karthikeya, the film was shot under a shoestring budget in 2020 in a record 16-day span.

Asmee is a dark love story with a vengeance angle and is filled with unexpected twists and turns. Though the makers initially wanted to take the direct-to-OTT route for the project, Asmee may opt for a theatrical release soon, say sources close to the team. "We've recently tied up with a top media agency for the release. We're holding talks with two leading OTT platforms for the streaming rights. Though the film was shot keeping an OTT release in mind, it may head to the theatres first owing to a few formalities," the source confirmed to OTTplay.

A special preview show of Asmee was held earlier this year which received a unanimously positive response, further convincing the producer Sneha Rakesh about the output. The fact that audiences may watch Asmee with an open mind, given its untapped lead cast, is perhaps its biggest advantage. The film's motion poster was released earlier this week and the trailer is expected to be unveiled shortly.
