The much-awaited updates from the biggest Tamil film of the year is here! The magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam, will hit the screens on September 30. Lyca Productions, which has bankrolled the big budget project along with Madras Talkies, has announced the news officially, leaving Kollywood fans excited.
The production company came up with the update on the occasion of the birthday of their chairman Allirajah Subaskaran. They also revealed stills of Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha and Jayam Ravi from the period flick which has been in the making for a while.
Aishwarya looks stunning and Trisha appears regal in the posters. Vikram and Karthi are seen as aggressive warriors while Karthi's mysterious appearance is sure to leave his fans elated. This is Ravi's first film with the maverick filmmaker, while all the remaining actors have teamed up with the filmmaker earlier.
AR Rahman has composed music for the movie which has art direction by Thota Tharani, cinematography by Ravi Varman and editing by A Sreekar Prasad. Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu and Ashwin Kakumanu are other notable actors who are playing pivotal characters in the movie.
The story of Ponniyin Selvan, which is set in the ninth century, is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's popular 1955 novel of the same name. According to a source, Vikram will be seen playing Aditya Karikalan, while Jayam Ravi essays the role of Arulmozhivarman. Karthi is appearing as Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan.
Aishwarya Rai is expected to don two characters Nandini and Mandakini Devi, while Trisha will be seen playing Kundavai Pirattiyar. Jeyamohan has penned dialogues for the ambitious film which is billed as one of the biggest projects in the country. Post its theatrical release, Ponniyin Selvan will have its OTT premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
