As per CNBC, Iger referred to Swift as a true cultural phenomenon and a creative genius on the call. It took some time for the financial details of the licencing agreement to become public knowledge. After the smash success of her tour, Disney probably had to contend with a bidding war for the pop star's most recent recorded performance. Taylor has a history of releasing concert and documentary videos through partnerships with Apple Music, Disney, and Netflix.
When the singer-songwriter announced last year that she was teaming up with movie theatre chain AMC to release a concert film, it stunned the theatrical industry. During its domestic opening weekend, the film grossed over $92 million, which is the second-highest debut for an October release.
Theatres recreated a classic experience for Swift fans at her concerts by offering boutique cocktails, unique popcorn buckets, and friendship bracelet-making booths. Worldwide, the film made over $261.6 million, with over $180 million coming from the US box office. Michael Jackson's 2009 concert documentary This Is It had the previous record at that worldwide level.
The singer's on-demand concert film became available for $19.89 the year she was born on December 13—her 34th birthday.
AMC Theatres distributed Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour which not only became the highest-grossing concert film of all time in North America but also received a Golden Globe nomination.
Meanwhile, Taylor already revealed the release date of her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department for April 19 during her recent Grammys speech, during which she received the first of the night's two honours.
