The Suitable Boy actress says it was Jaydeep’s give-it-all approach towards filmmaking that got her to do the film.

Tanya Maniktala drew in a lot of pats and praise for her sensitive, restrained yet emotive performance as Lata in the BBC television drama miniseries ‘The Suitable Boy’, helmed by Mira Nair, that had its global premiere on Netflix. The promising actor, who pulled off another good act in Jaydeep Sarkar’s Ishq Mastana in the anthology Feels Like Ishq, said it was the passion of Jaydeep for his work that drew her in when she received the script for Ishq Mastana in the recent anthology.

The actor opened up on her experience on the film to Etimes. Tanya said how happy she is to be on the receiving end of praises for the anthology. She stated that her hard work feels validated with the ‘equal amount of love’ she is getting for it and is overwhelmed with the love the characters of the film as a whole are receiving.

The actress who played Ishita in the famous web series Flames said that she got the script for Ishq Mastana from Kavish, post which she contacted the makers and the passion of Jaydeep for his work drew her in. “Jaydeep has a child-like excitement in him which is really contagious.” She said it was ‘amazing’ to work with him, courtesy his ‘compassion, love,’ and eye for the minutest details, and his give-it-all approach towards filmmaking. Describing him as a ‘brilliant storyteller’, she added that passion for his work helped everyone to give their best.

Tanya performed theatres during her first year in college and did street plays by the time she graduated, until the series Flames came her way and eventually Mira Nair’s The Suitable Boy, changing her life forever and initiating her journey as an actor.

The actor feels that OTT has given the much-needed space to actors to grow and experiment. Tanya, who started off her career with OTT, is very comfortable with the medium. While she feels the medium doesn’t really make a difference to her job as an actor, she says OTT is less restricted compared to the big screen.

The actor who grew up watching Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol on screen, would love to star in a remake of the well-loved Hindi romantic drama Veer Zaara. She also aspires to work with Konkona Sen Sharma and Vidya Balan, whom she idolises.
