It’s not often that inspirational true-life stories get retold on the silver screen. But one such is gearing up for its date with audiences. Tanuja, a film directed by award-winning filmmaker Harish MD Halli, about a young NEET aspirant’s struggle to take the medical entrance exam, will soon be in theatres.

The real-life Tanuja Karregowda had made headlines last year, when she could not appear for the NEET exam during the pandemic, as she not only developed symptoms of Covid, but also lived in a containment zone and could not venture out. This was back in the day when there were severe restrictions on movements on anyone suspected to be positive or living near a positive case. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she also missed the deadline to apply for the re-exam owing to technical glitches in uploading relevant documents.

Tanuja had taken to social media about her situation, which caught the attention of veteran journalist Vishweshwar Bhat. He, in turn, brought her case to the attention of then chief minister BS Yediyurappa and Health Minister K Sudhakar, both of who then intervened and got her to write the exam, which she cleared.

The film stars Saptha Pavoor as Tanuja, along with Rajesh Nataranga, Kailas and Sandhya Arekere. Vishweshwar Bhat, BS Yediyurappa and K Sudhakar will also be seen in the film playing themselves in cameos. Produced by Beyond Visions Cinemas, this true story has been shot in locations across Shivamogga and Bengaluru.

The team has now released the trailer of the film, which provides a glimpse into Tanuja’s struggle to give wings to her dreams of becoming a surgeon someday. The makers hope that the film will be inspirational for young ones to persevere among difficulties and be successful eventually.
