Tamannaah Bhatia is in the news today and for the wrong reasons! This morning, the 34-year-old actress dropped an Instagram post promoting a betting app banned by the Indian Government. She shared the advertisement in a full advertisement post on Instagram. While social media users are sparking outrage on the commercial, the actress has turned off the comments section of the post.

As per a 2023 report from The Economic Times – numerous betting apps advertise their operations on digital platforms within the country despite being banned by the Indian Government. Notably, Betway stands out for its aggressive advertising during the ongoing Indian Premier League, prominently featuring on platforms such as the news aggregator DailyHunt, short video platform Josh, and the social question-and-answer website Quora. Additional apps like Lotus365 and Fun88 also continue to promote their offerings despite the ban.
To add fuel to the fire, Tamannaah Bhatia is promoting Lotus365 on Instagram today.
However, this is not the first time the actress is promoting this banned app on Instagram. In a promotional video for Lotus365 released in May last year, Tamannaah can be seen taking centre stage, participating in a game involving a series of questions. With precision, she answers each question correctly, earning a prize for every accurate response. Displaying her love for winning, the actress then extends her encouragement to viewers, urging them to join Lotus365 if they too aspire to be consistent winners.
The actress who has over 24 million followers on Instagram currently, has been associated with multiple betting websites. Last October, she was featured in social media advertisements endorsing FairPlay, another banned betting platform that employed similar promotional techniques to Lotus365. These platforms persist in using celebrities for promotion despite being banned. Celebrities and influencers endorse these banned apps. It raises questions about the responsibility and ethical considerations of public figures when associating with such platforms.
