When it comes to portraying the characters with their idiosyncrasies and nuances of their personalities, Pankaj Tripathi is one name that comes to mind easily, just as easy as he makes acting seem, on screen while playing them. The actor, who very recently garnered acclaim for his role in Kriti Sanon-starrer Mimi, is being honoured with the Diversity in Cinema Award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The film festival is being held till August 30 at Melbourne, Australia.
The Mirzapur actor told Entertainment Times that he is honoured and humbled to receive the award. “I am very happy that such a prestigious film festival has recognised my work,” said the actor. With this laurel, Tripathi joins the earlier recipients of this award including Frieda Pinto, Fawad Khan, and Onir.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap will present the award to him on August 20. Tripathi also featured in a key role in Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur that brought his acting skills into the limelight. And the actor only upped the ante in Ludo, Mirzapur, Sacred Games and Newton.
Mitu Bhowmick Lange, the director of the festival, lauded the Bareilly Ki Barfi actor’s ‘unsurpassed talent’ that makes his every character ‘riveting’, while also adding that the actor ‘embodies’ the award through his craft.

This recognition adds to his spree of achievements that include nomination for the Best Performance (Male) in series for Mirzapur 2 and the selection of his short Laali at the IFFM this year. The National School of Drama graduate who began his acting journey with small roles in Run and Omkara also expressed his gratitude to OTT platforms for taking his work to a global audience. Describing it as a ‘brilliant and humbling’ experience, the actor said that he never imagined reaching 250 countries through the platforms. He also added that social media helps giving feedback and that he recently got a message from Italy appreciating Mimi.
The 44-year-old actor said that he aims to ‘perform to the best of his capabilities’, while he is also full of gratitude for the audience for praising his onscreen roles.
