The Nagabhushana and Amrutha Prem led film had been announced as a December 8 release on Amazon Prime, but as of 5 pm, it is not on the platform
The general practice for new titles to drop on Amazon Prime Video is at the stroke of midnight. In that sense, Daali Dhananjaya’s production Tagaru Palya should have been on the platform since 12 AM on December 8. But 17 hours later, there’s still no news of the film on the streamer. Netizens who have been waiting to watch it on OTT have been tweeting to Dhananjaya and Amazon Prime Video, but are yet to receive a response.
Interestingly, it was only a few days ago that Dhananjaya spoke emotionally about his failure as a star producer to bag an OTT partner for his film, which, despite being led by newcomers (Nagabhusbana and Amrutha Prem) had done decent business at the box office, with about 3 lakh odd footfalls. No OTT platform showed interest in Tagaru Palya, he had said, claiming at that point that only the satellite rights had been sold.
However, within a couple of days, his production banner Daali Pictures announced that the film was coming to Amazon Prime Video, after all, on December 8. The deal, according to sources, is for the streamer to host the film for a limited period only (hybrid format), up to 6 months, after which it will not be on the library anymore. This was the case with Orchestra Mysuru, which is no longer on Prime and if this was the deal with Daredevil Mustafa, well, then its days on the streamer are numbered, considering that it came in June.
Tagaru Palya, directed by newcomer Umesh K Krupa, is a comedy set in Mandya, which follows a local tradition of animal sacrifice, wherein the belief is that the sacrificial animal has to okay the same by shaking its head. When the goat set for slaughter refuses to consent, is what the film follows.
