The Nagabhushana-led film, produced by Dhananjaya, was meant to be on Amazon Prime Video on December 8, but is yet to drop on the streamer
Tagaru Palya, the third production venture of actor Daali Dhananjaya, which released in theatres on October 27 and had a fairly decent outing at the box office, considering it was led by a relatively new pair – Nagabhushana and Amrutha Prem. The film was subsequently slated to get an OTT outing, with Amazon Prime Video announced as the digital partner and Daali Pictures said it would be on the platform on December 8.
But then, it didn’t and multiple queries addressed to both the streamer and the banner elicited no response until today. A technical issue is apparently the reason behind the delay and while there is a promise to be entertained shortly, no new date has been offered at this point. Interestingly, Amazon Prime Video, has offered no explanation. In fact, the earlier release date announcement was also only from Daali Pictures and not the streamer.
Tagaru Palya on OTT: Netizens irked as Daali Dhananjaya’s production fails to land on streamer
Details of the digital partner came to light only days after Daali Dhananjaya had made an impassioned speech about how, as a star producer, he was unable to land a streaming deal for the film, during a recent interview. Dhananjaya had spoken at length about the reasons that mainstream platforms cite with respect to not picking Kannada content, like, for instance, that there is no return on investment as the viewership from Karnataka remains low.
Dhananjaya: No streaming platform has picked up Tagaru Palya yet
The directorial debut of Umesh K Krupa, Tagaru Palya is a rooted tale revolving around a local tradition involving animal sacrifice and the belief that the sacrificial animal has to ‘consent’ to the same before being slaughtered. The film was the launchpad of Amrutha Prem, the daughter of Nenapirali Prem, a casting choice that Dhananjaya got some flak for, after being the poster boy of an outsider making it in the Kannada industry and then promoting nepotism under his banner. He had, however, defended his decision, stating that Amrutha was talented and merited a launch with this film.
