Tagaru Palya: Dhananjaya’s third home production to be a Rajyotsava release
Dhananjaya is producing the film that introduces Amrutha

When Kannada actor Dhananjaya set up his home banner – Daali Pictures – he said that the aim was to give new talent a platform, whether as part of the cast or the crew. His debut production, Badava Rascal, had him in the lead, but its director Shankar Guru was a rank newcomer. The next venture, Head Bush, was a more ambitious project, which was, yet again, a launchpad for the director Shoonya, while Dhananjaya shouldered the responsibility of the leading man. With his third film as producer, Tagaru Palya, the Natarakshasa has chosen to let his good friend Nagabhushana take the lead.

Nagabhushana, who is often seen as the hero’s pal and provides the comic relief, has played the lead in Ikkat and Made in China earlier. The film, according to debutant director Umesh K Krupa is about the rural tradition of villagers cooking food at temple premises and then offering it to the deity. A rooted story, Tagaru Palya, will showcase the authentic essence of rural Karnataka, the filmmaker had said.

Controversy around casting Amrutha

In the film, Nagabhushana is paired with actor Nenapirali Prem’s Amrutha , for whom Tagaru Palya will serve as launchpad. The casting, which came shortly after team Kaatera had got Malashree’s daughter Radhana Ram on board, kicked off nepotism debates yet again. In the case of Tagaru Palya, it gained momentum because producer Dhananjaya has been at the forefront of fighting for the cause of actors like him who have had no industry backing and faced a lot of struggle before finding a break. Here, Dhananjaya argued that the nepotism debate cannot be at the cost of denying a deserving star kid an opportunity to prove his/her self. While being a star kid makes entry into the industry easy, the actor-producer said that the survival in the industry boils down to talent.

The film, meanwhile, is now ready for release and the team has announced that they have zeroed in on a date to bring it to theatres. According to the first look poster that was released this week, Tagaru Palya will be a Rajyotsava release. Interestingly, last year, Dhananjaya was supposed to have a November 1 release with Gurudev Hoysala, but it was delayed and came out only in March this year.
