Directed by Arindam Bhattacharya, the film portrays Swastika as a mafia queen of Shibpur – an area near Howrah, while Parambrata plays a fierce IPS officer.
Swastika Mukherjee and Parambrata Chatterjee once used to be one of the most talked-about couples in the Bengali film Industry before they parted ways. Even after their break up, they worked on several films together, including Srijit Mukherji’s Shah Jahan Regency. Now they are all set with their upcoming film, Shibpur. Directed by Arindam Bhattacharya, the film portrays Swastika as a mafia queen of Shibpur – an area near Howrah, while Parambrata is seen as a fierce IPS officer. The film will hit the theatre on June 30.
Does the past relationship affect their on-screen work? Swastika said that it has no effect. Swastika has always been open about her relationship. She said, “I would like to give my relationship phases space and dignity. Almost all the films Param and I did were after our relationship. Our relationship was over so long ago that there had not been an iota of discomfort. I worked with him after that, and I went to watch his directorial works. Our past relationship has never been a point of concern.”
In the film, there is no romantic inclination between them, “Arindamda suggested a hint of chemistry between Param’s character and my character. However, I vetoed it. I do not think Mandira’s (Swastika’s) character would encourage any soft corner with the police officer. I thought Mandira should be presented with realistic and raw emotion,” she said.
Shibpur also features Kharaj Mukhopadhyay, Rajatava Dutta, and others.
