The Hindi dubbed version of Suriya's recent release Etharkkum Thunindhavan is all set to premiere on July 17 on Star Gold India. The film marked Suriya's first theatrical release after a span of two years due to the pandemic. Etharkkum Thunindhavan, was directed by Pandiraj, and the plot was loosely said to be based on the sexual assault and extortion case that rocked Pollachi in 2019. The film received mixed reviews at the box office.

While Priyanka Mohan played the leading lady in it, the supporting cast comprised Sathyaraj, Saranya Ponvannan, Vinay Rai, Soori, Devadarshini, Ilavarasu and Pugazh. Etharkkum Thunindhavan was released in Telugu under the title ET and Suriya had dubbed for the Telugu version as well. The plot revolves around Kannabiran, a dedicated lawyer who takes up social causes and fights for them. The film is now streaming on Netflix and Sun NXT.

In the meantime, Suriya has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the only Tamil actor to have achieved the feat. The others Indians who made it to the list include Bollywood actress Kajol and director Reema Kagti.

Suriya thanked the Academy and said that he humbly accepted the invitation to join the Oscars Academy. He wrote on his social media page, "Thank you @TheAcademy for the invitation, which I humbly accept. My heartfelt thanks to all those who wished me, will always strive to make you all proud!! 🙏🏽 (sic)." Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, with whom Suriya recently shared screen space in Vikram, wished the actor and said that he should be proud to join the crowd of excellence. He wrote on his social media handle, "Glad my brother @Suriya_offl treads the ground of stars. In spite of gravity, which makes wings weak. We created angels and stars. Hence be proud brother to join the crowd of excellence (sic)."
