Suriya to do a period film helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra before Vetri Maaran's Vaadi Vaasal?

If Suriya indeed gets on board, it looks like his much-anticipated film Vaadi Vaasal with Vetri Maaran will take a backseat

Social media is abuzz with the news of Suriya gearing up to make his foray in the Hindi film industry with a mega-budget film. According to Pinkvilla, the actor is all set to take the big plunge into Bollywood with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Karna, in which he will play the iconic character from Mahabharata.

The period film is likely to be made in two parts and the shoot is said to begin next year, after Suriya wraps up the shoot for Sudha Kongara's film.

Though we hear that talks are still in an advanced stage, fans are already sharing screenshots of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra replying to Suriya's comment on social media. An official confirmation is awaited on the news.

It is to be noted that Suriya's entry into Bollywood was with Ram Gopal Varma's Rakta Charitra 2 (2010). The film, which was shot in Telugu and Hindi, was a sequel to Rakta Charitra. The political action thriller was based on the life of Paritala Ravindra. Suriya will also be making a cameo appearance in the Hindi remake of Sudha Kongara's Soorarai Pottru.

Suriya is currently busy with Siva's Kanguva, which is said to be one of the most expensive films of the actor. The film marks the Tamil debut of Disha Patani and is said to be a period film, which will be released in 10 languages. The film is being made in 3D and is slated to release next year.

If Suriya indeed signs Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's film and begins shooting for Karna, it looks like his much-anticipated film with Vetri Maaran, Vaadi Vaasal will take a backseat. Vetri Maaran is currently busy with the sequel to Viduthalai and is likely to begin shooting only after wrapping up the film. Suriya will hence complete Sudha Kongara's project first, which is said to be a quickie.
