The movie won awards for the best film and best actor at the IFFM held virtually today,
This is another moment for all the Suriya fans out there and for the hero himself to rejoice on. The actor was awarded the Best Actor Award by the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) for his exceptional performance in the well-acclaimed movie Soorarai Pottru. The movie was also awarded the Best Film Award. The actor took to social media to convey his gratitude to IFFM, Captain Gopinath (on whom the movie was inspired), the movie’s director Sudha Kongara and the rest of the team of Soorarai Pottru.
Suriya looked like he was on cloud nine when he delivered his virtual award show’s speech. He mentioned that this award is his first virtual award experience and also the first award for Soorarai Pottru. He thanked his fans and well-wishers for making the movie happen and for showing their support and love.
Speaking at the event, he said he was bored of the kind of work he’s been doing in his career spanning two decades and was looking to do something different when Soorarai Pottru came along. He said, “I started actually not liking dubbing for my past few films. I really wanted some change.”
He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the director of Soorarai Pottru, Sudha Kongara, for giving him the opportunity to portray the role of Maara. He mentioned that the movie would not have happened without her. He said, “Thanks to my director Sudha. This film was her 10 year’s dream, and she worked almost four years writing the film. Without Sudha, I'm not Maara.”
He also mentioned that he was honoured to tell the story of Captain Gopinath who pioneered a low-cost airline and someone who made it possible for a common man to fly for as low an amount as Re 1.
