Before joining Vetrimaaran’s Vaadivaasal, the actor is looking to collaborate with Siva on Suriya 42
We had told you Suriya would be teaming up with director Siva, for which Anirudh Ravichander is the music composer. Although the Kolaveri boy's involvement in the project is yet to be announced by the makers, we hear that the film (tentatively titled Suriya 42) will go on floors by July. However, an official word is awaited.
In case Anirudh comes on board, Suriya 42 will mark the third collaboration between Siva and Anirudh, following Vedhalam and Vivegam. (both had Ajith in lead roles)
Notably, Anirudh had composed the soundtrack of Suriya's Thaana Serndha Koottam, directed by Vignesh Shivn. Also, the composer crooned the opening number of Suriya's, Etharkum Thuninthavan, directed by Pandiraj.
According to multiple reports, Suriya will complete work on Bala's untitled film by June. Before joining Vetrimaaran’s Vaadivaasal, the actor is looking to collaborate with Siva on Suriya 42. There's an additional buzz that Suriya is likely to play a dual role in this one. Touted to be a historical fantasy fiction, unconfirmed reports claim that this project will be along the lines of the Baahubali and KGF franchise. Hearsay is that it has a scope for a sequel, too.
After being in the industry for decades, what does Suriya look for in a film now? “I am wary of remaining in my comfort zone. I try not to follow a pattern; I try to strike a balance between content-driven films and crowd-pleasers. My next project with Bala sir is a promising film and what I am doing with Vetrimaaran is equally challenging. I am even a bit scared of Bala sir’s film. After that, I have Siva’s film; I am even more worried about that," he told Cinema Express.
So, is there a conscious decision to pick films with a message? “I don’t feel obligated to choose scripts that address issues. I see it, in fact, as a responsibility and the need to repay the love people have shown me for 25 years now. I try to think about what new things I can bring to a film,” Suriya told Cinema Express.
The actor goes on to say, “Vaadivaasal is not an easy film to work on because once we got closer to shooting, we understood that we needed immense knowledge to do justice. For every shot, we need thousands of people in a frame. Now that the pandemic has eased out, we are planning to begin shooting either in June or July. At the moment, some pre-visualisation work is happening in Mumbai. I am also starting Bala anna’s film by the end of this month. I have been planning to do a straight Telugu film for a long time and I hope that will happen soon.”
Suriya 42 is expected to be bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green.
Siva's latest release was Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe. It was declared a box office disaster, and equally received poor reviews from critics.
