Suriya with Jyotika
Suriya-starrer Soorarai Pottru, which was released in 2020, hit the headlines again a couple of months ago when the movie bagged five awards at the prestigious 68th National Awards. The movie directed by Sudha Kongara was adjudged as the Best Feature Film, apart from winning laurels in the category Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Background Score.
The winners attended the ceremony at Delhi today and received the awards from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. Suriya himself had bankrolled Soorarai Pottru along with Jyotika, and the duo was also spotted at the event.
The social media handle of the actor's production house tweeted a video in which he is seen arriving at Delhi. Jyotika is also seen along with him in the video, and the former's fans have been going gaga over his stylish looks. They expressed excitement and love for the actor in the comment section.
Aparna Balamurali, GV Prakash and Sudha, too, attended the event, and videos of them receiving the honour have been doing the rounds on social media. Soorarai Pottru was the movie which bagged the most number of honours at the 68th National Awards.
The film, which is based on the life of Captain GR Gopinath, founder of Air Deccan, had skipped theatrical release, and was the first big Tamil movie to take the OTT route. Suriya's performance in the film garnered unanimous response from critics and movie lovers upon its release on Amazon Prime Video.
Now, all eyes are on Suriya's Jai Bhim which was released in 2021. Movie buffs hope that this film has chances to bag a few honours at the 69th National Awards. Interestingly, this movie, too, has been bankrolled by the actor and released directly on Amazon Prime Video.
