Suresh Gopi tests positive for COVID-19 days after wrapping up shoot of Joshiy’s Paappan

The team were set to begin the post-production of the movie this week

Actor and politician Suresh Gopi took to his social media page to announce that he had tested positive for COVID-19. The star had just wrapped up the shoot of Joshiy’s investigative drama Paappan last week.

In a tweet from his official social media handle, the actor posted, “Despite precautions, I have tested positive for COVID-19.” The Varane Avashyamund informed that he has quarantined himself and is doing fine, except for a mild fever.

The team of the Joshiy directorial had concluded the shoot of the movie last week with the flashback portions of Suresh Gopi’s character Abraham Mathew. The film had a start-stop schedule over the entire 2021, with them shooting a few portions before the second lockdown and then completing the second schedule in November. The final schedule began by December end and was completed last week in Varapuzha.

The movie has Suresh Gopi playing a police officer, who comes back from retirement to investigate a case. Also starring Sunny Wayne, Nyla Usha, Kaniha, Asha Sharath, Jewel Mary and Chandunadh, the film is expected to hit theatres this year.

Paappan’s motion poster was also released last week that showed the actor’s aged look in the movie complete with a salt and pepper beard. The film marks the first collaboration between Joshiy and Suresh Gopi seven years after their previous movie, Salaam Kashmier.

Earlier this week, Mammootty had tested positive for COVID-19 during the shoot of CBI 5 in Kochi. The megastar had posted that he was doing fine except for a slight fever. The shoot of the movie, directed by K Madhu and scripted by SN Swamy, was suspended for two weeks.

Meanwhile, Suresh Gopi’s next release will be the Tamil film Thamezharasan, which has Vijay Antony. The actor is also expected to begin work on Ottakomban and Rahul Ramachandran’s upcoming film soon. The actor's previous release was Kaaval, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
