National Award-winning actor Suraj Venjaramoodu could soon be taking up more comedy roles after excelling in a string of serious characters in the past few years. The actor, who plays the role of a police officer in Dijo Jose Antony’s Jana Gana Mana, in a recent interview revealed that he will be playing humorous characters in two of his upcoming movies.
Suraj said that he has completed shooting for Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Mukundan Unni Associates, which is helmed by editor-turned-filmmaker Abhinav Sunder Nayak. The actor said it’s a role that has prominence for comedy.
The actor also revealed that he is also part of a feature film that is set to be made by the team of Karikku. “I will be seen in more humour-oriented roles,” he said. Further details on the movie are awaited.
Explaining why he has been taking up more comedy role, Suraj, in a press meet ahead of Jana Gana Mana’s release, said, “I want to do comedy but after movies such as Action Hero Biju, I have been getting more of serious characters and I can choose only from the offers that come to me. But humour is my life force, it’s what I like the most.”
Meanwhile, Suraj collaborated with Prithviraj Sukumaran again after Driving Licence for the socio-political thriller Jana Gana Mana. The film once again had him in a serious role of a cop who is investigation the murder of a college lecturer, essayed by Mamta Mohandas.
Suraj’s next release will be Pathaam Valavu, in which he teams up with Indrajith Sukumaran. The thrilled, helmed by M Padmakumar and scripted by Abhilash Pillai, has Suraj playing a convict who breaks the terms of his parole and doesn’t return. Based on a true incident that happened in Kerala, the movie also has Ajmal Amir, Swasika Vijay, Aditi Ravi and Major Ravi in pivotal roles. The movie will hit theatres on May 13.
