Parthiban's Iravin Nizhal is said to be the world's first single shot non-linear film
Superstar Rajinikanth, who recently seems to have watched Parthiban's latest outing, Iravin Nizhal, has called the film a global achievement. The actor also sent a handwritten letter to Parthiban, which stated that it was not easy making a film using single shot camera. He lauded Parthiban and the film's cinematographer Arthur Wilson for achieving the feat. A picture of the letter has been doing the rounds on the internet along with a picture of their meeting.
The star cast includes Parthiban, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Robo Shankar, Priyanka Ruth, Brigida Saga, Sneha Kumar, Anand Krishnan, Chandru and others. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. This is the first time that AR Rahman is composing music for a film directed by Parthiban. Though the duo was supposed to collaborate for a film titled Elelo, two decades ago, it didn't materialise. So, when Parthiban's approached AR Rahman with his experimental film, he agreed to get on board. During the audio launch, Rahman had stated that Parthiban had set an example for future generations with Iravin Nizhal.
Apart from Rahman, the film has two other Academy Award winners. While the editing is by Craig Mann of Whiplash fame, Cottalango Leon has handled the VFX supervision. The story, screenplay are by Parthiban himself, who also acted, directed ann produced the film. Iravin Nizhal released on July 15 and has won acclaim for its technical finesse though the storyline received mixed reviews from critics.
On the film festival front, Iravin Nizhal has bagged awards at the Medusa Film Festival, Cult Movies International Film Festival (Best Cinematography) and Oniros Film Awards- New York (Best Cinematography). The film was nominated for the New York International Film Awards and Rome International Movie Awards as well. Iravin Nizhal also got into the India Book of Records 2022 and Asia Book of Recods 2022.
