Superman Legacy: Barry and Gotham star Anthony Carrigan is DC hero Metamorpho

Directed by James Gunn, Superman Legacy will look at his life as a man of two worlds, including with his meta human compatriots, and will be in theatres in July 2025

Guardians of the Galaxy maker James Gunn is busy getting the cast onboard for his first venture as co-CEO of DC Studios. Gunn has written and will direct a film about young Superman, during his early days in Metropolis. David Corenswet has been chosen to play Clark Kent/Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan will be Lois Lane, in the film called Superman: Legacy

A few days ago, Gunn had posted on social media that, “Superman: Legacy opens two years from today. It may seem far away to many of you, but it’s close to me! We have a lot to do between now and then. But I haven’t been more excited about a project in forever… and this cast, slowly coming together.”

It was then revealed that Gunn had got Nathan Fillion onboard as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi (who played Darwin in X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific. The latest addition to the cast is Gotham and Barry star Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, the hero who can shape-shift and manipulate his body's composition at will and whose body constantly displays a vibrant and colourful patchwork of different elements.

The casting of so many actors as various DC heroes, has netizens wondering what kind of a Superman reboot Gunn was making after all. The filmmaker even responded to one question, when a response to Carrigan’s casting was ‘I thought this was a movie about Superman?’, writing, “Superman is a man of two worlds: Clark with Lois, Jimmy and Perry and Superman with his meta human compatriots. How could I tell a fill story about Clark/Superman without including all areas of his life?”

Superman: Legacy will be in theatres in July 2025.
