The movie, which is directed by Thaneer Mathan Dinangal director Girish AD, released in theatres in January
Super Sharanya has already emerged as this year’s sleeper hit in Malayalam after its theatrical release in January. Featuring a relatively young cast, Thaneer Mathan Dinangal Girish AD proved that he’s not a one-hit wonder with the coming-of-age tale about a reticent girl from Palakkad played by Anaswara Rajan.
The film, which is all set to drop on ZEE5 on March 11, has several factors going for it, to make it a good watch for all kinds of audience from different languages. With campus dramas such as Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Hridayam , which is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, and comedy entertainers such as Jan.E.Man , which is available to watch on Sun NXT, trending on their respective platforms, Super Sharanya too is expected to mirror the results for its platform. Here’s why:
The Girish AD world
Those who watched Thaneer Mathan Dinangal would immediately identify the world where Super Sharanya and its characters are set in. In Girish’s universe, if we could term it, the characters are still finding their place and voice, and it’s instantly relatable. The filmmaker doesn’t just focus on its central characters but uses the supporting cast so effectively in shaping up the world. That’s a reason this coming-of-tale has been a hit with the youth.
Its delightful cast
The movie is mostly told through its titular character Sharanya’s perspective. Anaswara plays the character well, showing how she matures and finds her voice from being the shy and diffident girl from Palakkad. Arjun Ashokan plays a youth enamoured by her beauty along with several others including Naslen, her batchmate, Vineeth Vishwam, her college professor who has a soft corner for her, and Vineeth Vasudevan, a spoof of Vijay Deverakonda’s toxic Arjun Reddy. Mamitha Baiju as the tough friend Sona is another character that stands out.
Peppered with liberal doses of comedy
Much like Thaneer Mathan Dinangal, Girish packs his storytelling with natural comedy that just evolves organically in the most predictable of situations. It helps that the supporting cast are relatively fresh faces and their chemistry works a lot in elevating the jokes, even though we have heard them all before. Both Vineeths, Naslen and Sajin Cherukayil, who plays the brother in law of Arjun Ashokan’s character, though probably walk away with the best comic scenes in this film.
Cameos from two stellar actors
The surprise appearance by Antony Varghese is already out, with the film releasing in theatres two months ago. But there’s also one by a State Award winner. So, look out for that in the film, which will be streaming on ZEE5 from March 11.
