Mirchi Shiva's film Suma has been in the can for a while now with the film yet to see the light of day. But on Friday, an announcement was made that the film is gearing up for release. Tamil film Sumo will hit the big screens on April 25, the makers have announced.

Sumo release date out: Mirchi Shiva’s much-anticipated film to hit theatres soon

Announced a few years ago, Sumo is an upcoming Tamil film starring Mirchi Shiva and Priya Anand in the lead roles. The duo has earlier shared screen space in the romantic comedy Vanakkam Chennai. Directed by SP Hosimin, who previously made Bharath's February 14 and Aayiram Vilakku featuring Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Sumo is bankrolled by Ishari K Ganesh's Vels Film International.

While the film has been delayed for many years now, the producers finally announced a release date. April 25 is when Sumo will be released in theatres.

Besides Shiva and Priya Anand, who have worked together in films like Vanakkam Chennai and Kasethan Kadavulada, the upcoming film also stars Yoshinori Tashiro, VTV Ganesh, Chetan, Besant Ravi, Srinath, Yogi Babu and others.

The technical crew of Sumo includes, music by Nivas K. Prasanna and Rajiv Menon cranking the camera. Praveen KL has handled the edits. Sumo is touted to be a comedy entertainer and will revolve around a sumo who has a low IQ level and gets washed up on a beach shore in Chennai.

Where to watch Vanakkam Chennai on OTT

Before Sumo hits the big screens, you can watch Vanakkam Chennai. The film is helmed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, and is available for streaming on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium at discounted prices. The romantic comedy released in 2013 and revolves around an NRI photographer who comes to India to participate in a competition and gets acquainted with a man who also ends up renting the same house as she does. The film opened to positive reviews. Subsequently, Priya Anand and Shiva also appeared in Kasethan Kadavuladha.
