Acting wasn't the first love of veteran artiste Suhasini. She had even completed a cinematography course in Madras and was more interested in taking charge of the action behind the camera. It took a director like Mahendran to spot the actress in Suhasini when he cast her in the relationship drama Nenjathai Killathe in 1981. The film was so successful that her calendar was full with her acting commitments and her dream to be a cinematographer remained unfulfilled to date.

Suhasini took to direction with Indira nearly a decade and a half after her debut, though it didn't set the box office on fire. She stuck to being an actor across all South Indian languages until Amazon Prime Video convinced her to direct a short for the anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai in 2020. The actress has also written dialogues for films, the most notable being Mani Ratnam's Raavanan. She has been reasonably choosy with her acting commitments in Telugu lately, seen in brief roles in films like Tholi Prema, Suryakantham and Yatra.

After signing up for the Satyadev-Tamannaah starrer Gurthunda Seethakalam in 2020, she will next be seen in Balamevvadu, a drama where she plays an honest doctor Yashoda who stands up to the medical mafia. The film, written and directed by Satya Rachakonda, stars Dhruvan Katakam, Nia Tripathi and Prudhvi Raj in key roles. The filmmaker assures that the actress has a role as intense as the cop she played in Jr NTR's Rakhi. The concept teaser of Balamevvadu, based on true incidents, was released recently. The makers are yet to take a call about the film's release plan.
