The story of V.G. Siddhartha, the co-founder and the chief brain force behind Cafe Coffee Day, is currently being conceived as a biopic. The upcoming film will be based on the non-fiction book 'Coffee King: The Swift Rise and Sudden Death', written by investigative journalists Rukmini B.R. and Prosenjit Datta. Now, as per the latest reports, popular music label and film production company T-Series has acquired the adaptation rights of the book along with Almighty Motion Picture and in association with Karma Media Entertainment.

V. G. Siddhartha is chiefly known for making his brand Cafe Coffee Day or CCD a ubiquitous name among the Indians. In his 35-year-long professional journey, V. G. Siddhartha achieved many feats, including being the first in Karnataka to set up a cafe (in 1996). However, his entrepreneurial stint saw a tragic end when his body was found washed up at the Hoige Bazaar beach by a group of fishermen. Forensic Reports, along with a letter written by him to his family and shareholders, revealed it to be "death by suicide".

Rukmini BR, co-writer of the book, says, "Siddhartha's story is filled with thrilling twists and turns in every stage of his life. Almighty Motion Picture's track record of bringing complex human stories to screen makes this adaptation an exciting proposition for us”. 'Coffee King: The Swift Rise and Sudden Death' will be published by Pan Macmillan and is expected to hit stands soon.

The film adaptation can be expected to dramatize the events for the larger canvas and bring to life the entrepreneur's many highs and lows through the years. Bhushan Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of T-Series said, “Everyone is acquainted with Cafe Coffee Day as a brand, we are quite ecstatic to bring this intriguing biopic of the man who co-founded the country’s largest retail chain.”. T-Series, which began primarily as a music label, forayed into film production with Mahesh Bhatt's Aashiqui in 1990 but expanded the avenue in the past decade with films like Radhe Shyam, Tanhanji, Ready, and many others.

Producer Prabhleen Kaur Sandhu, Almighty Motion Picture said that this would be the "most exciting" project of his career. “Cafe Coffee Day is one of India's most beloved brands and we will be adapting all the nuances of the story of its architect, VG Siddhartha on screen. This is a deeply researched book which gives us a lot of scope to bring out unknown facets of this great entrepreneur's life,” read his press statement. Almighty Motion Picture is known for its eclectic set of film adaptations such as Ashwini Bhatnagar's 'Mahajabeen as Meena Kumari' and Mihir Dalal's 'Big Billion Startup: The Untold Flipkart'.
