The Patient will revolve around a serial killer who holds a therapist hostage, with a strange request.
Steve Carell is all set to star in the upcoming FX limited series The Patient helmed by Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields. The duo are most well known for their work on the FX drama, The Americans.
FX Networks made the announcement on their Twitter handle recently.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weisberg and Fields will write and executive produce the show, with Carell and FX Productions producing as well.
The Patient will revolve around the story of a widowed psychotherapist, Alexander Strauss (Carell), who is held hostage by a serial killer with an unusual request- to cure him of his murderous tendencies. In the process of helping out his homicidal client, the therapist finds his own inner demons coming out while in captivity.
The mini-series will have ten episodes in total, each with a running time of 30 minutes.
Weisberg had created the FX series The Americans on which he also served as an executive producer with Fields. The show revolved around a pair of Russian intelligence officers masquerading as an American couple. The show was the subject of widespread critical acclaim, earning Weisberg and Fields an Emmy Award for writing.

Although initially known for his comedic prowess in popular works such as The Office Carell had also earned a name for himself in several dramatic roles he has done, earning an Academy Award nomination for the drama Foxcatcher. He will next be seen in the second season of the Netflix comedy Spaceforce which will premiere in 2022.
