Star preview: All you need to know about the Prithviraj Sukumaran and Joju George Malayalam film

The supernatural thriller will have a theatrical release once theatres reopen in Kerala

Theatres in Kerala are set to reopen after being temporarily shut down for nearly six months due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The state government has announced a relaxation of the lockdown measures in the state with theatres and other venues set to reopen at 50% capacity. Several filmmakers are set to announce or have announced theatrical releases dates for films that were delayed as a result of the pandemic.

Who are the filmmakers of Star?

The film is directed by Domin D'Silva, which will be his second feature film after Pyppin Chuvattile Pranayam was released in 2017. The film starred Neeraj Madhavm, Sarath Kumar, Rebecca Monica John, and Aju Varghese. The new film Star is expected to be a much bigger production with Abraham Mathew serving as the executive producer and ABAAM Movies producing it. Tharun Bhaskaran the man behind the lens, is in charge of the film’s cinematography.

Who are the actors of Star?

The trailer of the film suggests that actor Joju George will play the lead alongside Sheelu Abraham. George has recently established himself as a revered star after appearing in critically acclaimed films such as Nayattu, Aanum Pennum, Joseph, Jagame Thandiram, and Malik. It will be a fresh challenge for Sheelu Abraham after appearing in supporting roles in Kanal, Manglish, and She Taxi. It remains to be seen how much screen time Prithviraj Sukumaran will have in the film, but he is nevertheless expected to be an important character in the narrative. Other supporting characters include Jaffer Idukki, Shiny Sarah, and veteran actor Subbalakshmi.

What is Star about?

Details about the plot of the film have largely been kept under wraps, but if the trailer is anything to go by, Star appears to be a supernatural thriller. Joju George and his family are threatened by a mysterious entity that draws its power from stars. This has caused a strain in the relationships within his family. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s character comes into the fray to help the family in their hour of need.

When and where to watch Star?

Like most films in the pandemic era, Star was also touted to have an OTT release if lockdown measures were continued to be enforced in Kerala. However, the movie is set to have an October 29 theatrical release after the government announced the reopening of movie theatres in the state, albeit at half capacity. An OTT release can be expected in the future with several streaming services gaining popularity over the last year and a half.
