A still from RRR
RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli of Baahubali-fame, which was released to a rousing response in the theatres, will be available on Zee5 in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada, from May 20. However, the Hindi version is expected to be out at a later date.
The blockbuster, which featured Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles, also starred Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Samuthirakani, Olivia Morris, Shriya Saran, and others.
Bankrolled by DVV Danayya, RRR had music by MM Keeravaani and cinematography by KK Senthil Kumar.
RRR collected Rs 223 crore on day 1 at the box office, revealed the makers. This beat the record set by Baahubali 2 on day 1. Hitting the Rs 1000-crore mark at the worldwide box office, RRR emerged as one of the biggest hits in India.
SS Rajamouli had assured RRR would be bigger than Baahubali. He told Cinema Express, “RRR cannot be construed as a real story. It’s a dramatised version of a fictitious story. Both NTR and Charan followed the script rather than prodding over history. Usually, I don’t predict the outcome of my films, but I am confident that RRR will be bigger than Baahubali.”
The maverick director agreed that the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns certainly disrupted their plans and also made film shootings more expensive. Rajamouli told Cinema Express, “The three waves of the pandemic have certainly delayed the proceedings and it was disappointing. However, we took these opportunities to fine-tune the script and concentrate on the post-production. After the third wave, we improvised the 3D version."
Asked if there would be a sequel to RRR, Rajamouli added, "There won't be a sequel to RRR and I have no plans to make it a franchise.”
Rajamouli also said he envisioned his follow up to Baahubali 2: The Conclusion as a small film without visual effects and action sequences. “I planned to direct a love story with two male superstars and a girl. This is what I pitched to both Tarak and Charan and we were all on board with the idea. When I shared the same with my wife, her instant reaction was, ‘who’ll care to watch a love story from you?’ and it was heart-breaking. I have always wanted to witness the confluence of two superpowers. When I thought of telling a fictional tale of two real-life heroes, I felt an emotional excitement, and the two actors too liked it more than the love story!"
