Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has revealed his grand plan to bring Mahabharata to the big screen.
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for his epic Baahubali franchise, has hinted at his plans for a new project. Rajamouli spoke about the potential for a 10-part movie franchise to tell the story of the Mahabharata, a vast and complex epic from Indian mythology. “If I get to the point of making Mahabharata, it would take me a year just to read the versions of Mahabharata that are available in the country. At present, I can only assume that it would be a 10-part film,” Rajamouli said while being interviewed by his brother-in-law Dr AV Guruva Reddy at a recent event.
Rajamouli has previously spoken about his desire to create his own interpretation of the epic, with new and enhanced character development. “The characters that I write for my Mahabharata will not be the same as you’ve seen or read before. I will tell Mahabharata in my own way. Mahabharata (story) will be the same, but the characters will be enhanced and the inter-relationships between the characters will be added," he said earlier.

Rajamouli's previous directorial outing was RRR, which has seen massive success worldwide, including an Oscar win for the film's original song Naatu Naatu . But he has made it clear that his ultimate goal is to bring the Mahabharata to the screen in a way that is both faithful to the original story and innovative in its approach.
“Every film I make, I feel that I’m learning something to ultimately make Mahabharata. So that’s my dream and every step is towards that," Rajamouli said.
Rajamouli is currently working on his next project, which will star Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead role. Earlier Oscar-winning music composer MM Keeravani revealed that the movie was an "action adventure. "
"My upcoming project is with Rajamouli again with one more superstar from India, Mahesh Babu. It's a forest adventure," Keeravani said earlier.
