Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is one of the most sought-after storytellers in Indian cinema after he churned out pan-Indian success Baahubali and the internationally acclaimed RRR back-to-back. While all eyes are now set on his upcoming film with actor Mahesh Babu, tentatively titled SSMB 29, Rajamouli recently attended an event in Japan and opened up about the progress of the project.

What did SSR say about SSMB 29?
Rajamouli recently attended an event in Japan, which is known for celebrating Indian cinema and has a huge fanbase for Indian actors. At the event, Rajamouli spoke about his upcoming film with Mahesh Babu and shared an update about the same.

He said, “We have started work on my next film. We have completed the writing and have begun the pre-production process. The pre-visualisation process is ongoing. We have not finished the casting for the film. Only the protagonist, the hero, is locked. His name is Mahesh Babu and a Telugu actor. He is very handsome and hopefully during the release I will bring him here and introduce him to you. I am sure you would love him too.”
Touted to be an epic action adventure along the lines of Indiana Jones, SSMB 29 will have a script by screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad. The film is expected to be the most ambitious project in Mahesh Babu’s career till date, with the actor set to appear in multiple roles.
Rajamouli showered with love in Japan
SS Rajamouli’s RRR not only became a pan-Indian success and won an Oscar award for its music, but also became an international recognition. One of the countries that is a huge fan of the film is Japan where the song Naatu Naatu has become a hit.

Rajamouli, who had recently visited the country, penned a gratitude note for the love and support his movie had received from the fans in Japan. In a post, he wrote, “In Japan, they make origami cranes & gift them to their loved ones for good luck& health. This 83-year-old woman made 1000 of them to bless us because RRR made her happy. She just sent the gift and was waiting outside in the cold. Some gestures can never be repaid. Just grateful.”
