Directed by Nagashekar, who made the original, the sequel will go on floors in November
In 2011, director Nagashekar made a film called Sanju Weds Geetha, a romantic drama with Srinagara Kitty and Ramya in the lead. The film was a box-office success, largely in part to its emotional story-telling and Jassie Gift’s musical score, especially songs like Sanju Matthe Geetha and Gaganave Baagi, among others. Following the success of the film, Nagashekar announced a sequel, Sanju Weds Geetha 2, even though the lead pair of the original film had a tragic end.
At one point, Kriti Kharbanda’s name was heard as the possible heroine of the film, but she later clarified that she was not doing the film. Then, in 2014, Nagashekar announced the start of Sanju Weds Geetha 2, with him as hero and Nitya Menen as the female lead. But this also did not take off and now, nearly a decade later, he has announced his plan to make a sequel yet again. This time, Nagashekar is bringing Srinagara Kitty back, although it is not known if Ramya will also act in the film. For now, her association with Sanju Weds Geetha 2 is limited to being its presenter.
The poster of Sanju Weds Geetha 2 that was released today on the occasion of leading man Srinagara Kitty’s birthday, features a sketch of the actor, a girl, and a bird in the backdrop, with the tagline ‘Lifeee is Beaaautiiifullll.’ Nagashekar, we hear, intends to go on floors with the film in November, with a targeted release date of Dasara 2024.
The news of the sequel has been met with mixed response from netizens. While some were hopeful of the film being a good comeback vehicle for Kitty and of it being a musical hit, much like the original film, Nagashekar’s recent string of flops, though, is being seen as a cause for worry.
