Srikanto is an upcoming Hoichoi original series, directed by Sani Ghosh Ray
Hoichoi unveiled a poster for its upcoming original series Srikanto which stars popular actors Sohini Sarkar and Rishav Basu in lead roles, today.
Along with the poster, a new track from the show ‘Amakey Nao’ was also released. In March, the makers unveiled the first song, an EDM fusion track called ‘O Radhe Radhe’.
Srikanto, directed by Sani Ghosh Ray, is a musical adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel of the same name.
In the modern-day retelling of Srikanto, Rajlokkhi (Sohini), who’s a dancer, falls in love with the vagabond soul of Srikanto (Rishav)
While speaking exclusively to OTTplay director Sani Ghosh Ray commented, “Usually you don’t see pure romance on OTT. If there’s romance it’s always shrouded or dipped in a thriller. Romance is always a part of the whole show and it’s never a central theme. This is a romantic series and this show will be all about pure romance and nothing else. And you will relive the moments from your childhood crush be it your teacher, or your distant cousin, Boudi. The moments when you felt that chill maybe for the first time during your school days. An age when you can’t really figure out the refinement, grace, or logic. (Sic.)
Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is one of the leading literary deities of Bengali literature. He is considered an epoch in our cultural history who published several books which were later adapted for the screen in multiple languages.
His work Devdas so far, has been adapted for cinema a record 15 times, in seven Indian languages - Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Assamese. Srikanto is another legendary work of art that has been depicted several times onscreen and each time the makers dealt with specific chapters from the novel.
Inspirations or adaptations of famous texts can become more interesting when the filmmaker infuses his own brand of insight into the source material allowing certain creative liberties if only it adds to the essence of the mise en scène.
Srikanto is backed by SVF and the trailer of the show will be dropped on April 8. The series will be available on Hoichoi from April 14.
