The sports drama based on Mithali Raj’s life and career will be released on July 15.
Taapsee Pannu-starrer sports drama Shabaash Mithu is all set to hit the theatres on July 15. Before the release, director Srijit Mukherji talked about his experience of working with Taapsee, his filming experience and a lot more. Meanwhile, Pankaj Tripathi-starrer Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga failed to create a stir at the box office. It is important to see if Taapsee – who plays Mithali Raj in the film – can offer a better result at the box office for Srijit.
Talking about his association with Taapsee, Srijit said Taapsi is an intelligent and hardworking actress. “It was a delight to work with Taapsee. She is intelligent, dedicated and a natural athlete. And therefore, slipping into the character was easy,” said the director, who is known to be an ardent sports lover. She also mentioned that Taapsee worked really hard during the technical training sessions.
Meanwhile, Srijit is also excited to capture the life and career of Mithali. “She is a living example of a legend. She has played 215 matches in an ODI career spanning 22 years and 91 days. She also holds the world record for the most runs in women's ODI cricket. She is a shining example of a legend in India’s cricketing history,” the director said.
While Shabaash Mithu is all set to hit the theatre, another biopic, Chakdah Xpress, which captures the life and career of another legend Jhulan Goswami, is also being made with Anushka Sharma playing the Indian all-rounder. In Srijit’s film, however, Mumtaz Sorcar will be playing the character of Jhulan. “Jhulan is also a legend. I know her as a friend. And I strongly believe that her story should definitely be told. In my film, her character is there. But to know how much we could explore is something that one needs to find out from the film,” Srijit said.
