Srijit Mukherji and Raj Chakraborty's films are there but will SVF give Puja release a miss this year?
They have two big films – Srijit Mukherji’s Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichu Nei and Raj Chakraborty’s film with Ritwick Chakraborty and Mithun Chakraborty. And yet, SVF might give their usual grand Puja release a miss. In fact, it is this production house that started the trend of Puja releases. However, this might be their gap year.
Durga Puja is a little more than a month away. For the past few years, this has been the battlefield for all the big-banner Bengali films. Last year, Srijit’s Dawsham Awbotaar, Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s Raktabeej, Dev’s Bagha Jatin, and Arindam Sil’s Jongole Mitin Mashi were released. This year, Shiboprosad and Nandita’s Bohurupi, Srijit and Dev’s Tekka, and Arindam’s Ekti Khunir Sandhane Mitin may be released. But there is no buzz from the house.
According to sources, the Federation’s brawl with Rahool Mukherjee’s fiasco, the consequent disruption, and finally his film getting shelved was a trigger point. The film was an ace card of SVF, where Anirban Bhattacharya and Prosenjit Chatterjee were to team up, once again after Srijit Mukherji's Dawshom Awvotaar. After Dawshom's success, the team of Anirban and Prosenjit became a favorite of the audience. Also, Rahool planned to make a Bengali version of the commercially successful Tamil film Garudan. The film revolves around a rape victim and the tussle between the administration and the criminals. Tollywood reports say that the shooting was stopped due to this reason, especially after the RG Kar incident. There is another rumor that Srijit is not willing to give his successful pair Anirban and Prosenjit to another director. However, there is no substantial proof behind this rumor.
SVF has another Srijit's film Sotti Bole Sotti Kichu Nei and one Raj Chakraborty film Tanay. The first film has an ensemble cast and the second film stars Mithun Chakraborty. But Srijit's other film Tekka, starring Dev, and Mithun's film Shastry will be released in the Puja. There is an unwritten rule in the entertainment world that forbids the same director's or actor's more than one film to be released during Puja.
So, will this Puja see no SVF film? Shrikant could not be reached over the phone. Anandabazar Online contacted Mahendra Soni. He said 'I am out of station. Hence, right now I can't say anything. I will return to Kolkata after some days and will talk with Shrikant and others about the Puja films. Then I can tell you something.'
