Sriimurali’s Bagheera is being compared to other Hollywood superhero movies, but the actor urges audiences to watch it with no preset expectation
The teaser and the trailer of Roaring Star Sriimurali’s upcoming action drama Bagheera have set high expectations for the film. It began even earlier, considering that the film is based on a story by KGF maker Prashant Neel. Sriimurali and Prashant’s maiden collaboration Ugramm has gained cult status over the years, and while the filmmaker has not actively been involved in the making, he got someone who’s been associated with him for long – Dr Suri – to do the job.
Bagheera trailer: Sriimurali’s action thriller is Kannada cinema’s answer to Daredevil?
Audiences have been calling Bagheera Kannada cinema’s Batman, Daredevil, Black Panther, etc. which is immensely flattering, but also means that when people come to theatres to watch the film, they will expect something like the aforementioned Hollywood superhero flicks. Hence, Sriimurali’s request to audiences is that they should come to the theatres on October 31 with no preset expectations.
Director Dr Suri on Bagheera: ‘It is as much about action as it is...'
“We’ve tried to do something unique and my sincere request is that people approach it with a blank slate. I would want audiences to treat me like a newcomer, who is trying to find a foothold in the film industry. By the end of the movie, I want each one of them to think, ‘I want to be like Bagheera’,” said Sriimurali, speaking to the Telugu media during promotions in Hyderabad. Bagheera is, at the moment, being released in Kannada and Telugu only, with other languages either at a later stage, depending on demand, or for OTT only.
The team of Bagheera has been very clear that they have done a vigilante/superhero origin story, following a young boy who dreams to become a superhero, and ends up being a cop, only to realize that to uproot evil, he cannot do it within the limitations of his khaki uniform. So, he becomes Bagheera by night. The film explores the circumstances that lead a good cop to becoming a vigilante hunting and killing criminals.
KGF: Chapter 1’s Garuda, Ram, is the main antagonist of Bagheera, while Rukmini Vasanth is Sriimurali’s love interest. She plays a doctor in the film. Also on the cast are Prakash Raj, Sudharani and Achyuth Kumar, among others. Ajaneesh B Loknath fills in as music director, his second project for Hombale Films after Kantara.
